  • Is this tester able to measure available power from the PSE without having a PD requiring that amount of power? Additionally, will it measure required power from a PD even though this exceeds the available power from the PSE?

Yes, this tester is able to measure available power on the line from the PSE and will display both Volts and Amps. It will also measure the Voltage, Amperage and Watts for the Powered Device (PD) up to 280 watts assuming the PSE does not shut down or stop providing power when the consumption exceeds its capabilities.

  • Does the WS-POE-TESTER log and record data?

The Tester does not log data, but that is a feature we're working to add.

  • Does this come with an AC power supply and if so what is the AC voltage specifications?

No, the tester does not come with a power adapter. The tester does not have any batteries either. Instead the POE-Tester gets it's power from the POE or DC power being tested through the unit (<1 watt of power).

  • What is the difference between this version of the PoE Tester from previous versions?

Our POE-Tester is the orignal version. The newest version is our PoE Tester Gen2 which will support the 802.3bt standard. The Gen2 also has a new design with an LCD scrolling display screen and can now measure DC voltages from 3.5V - 56V; 12V PoE to 57V PoE.

  • Why does the unit display 1 Voltage value, 2 Ampere values and three Power (Watts) values?

This tester should display one reading, for each, Volts, Amps, and Watts on the screen. The readings cycle through every 3 seconds, and may take a few seconds to stabilize when a powered device is connected.

  • What happens when the current draw from testing a device in-line exceeds 500 ma (28 watts)?

The amperage measurement capability is 0 - 500 mA. If the current draw exceeds the 500mA capability of the Tester, the display will continue to show the maximum reading.
