QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I am looking for something that i can use to power Google WiFi on a Ceiling where no plug is available. looks like your product will do it. Presently have a 802.3.at powered access point installed and want to replace it with Google WiFi. Google WiFi needs a lan connection and a USB-C for power since it is not PoE. Will your product accomplish this?

Yes, this kit will provide power on USB-C and data on an RJ45 to the LAN.

  • Is it safe to to use it with "Nest Camera IQ Outdoor" if the Camera input is 15 VDC 1.0A?

Yes, you can use this USB-C splitter to power the new Nestcam indoor and outdoor units. For more information, see our blog on USB-C.

  • Is this model suitable for a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.2? That's the newer version with the fix provided on the USB C power inlet.

Yes, according to the specs, the Pi 4 v1.2 is compatible with the 5V3A profile of the GAT-USBC-REV2.

  • Can I also use GAT-USBC-REV2 with an iPhone (Lightning connector)? If so what cable specification is recommended? Thanks! /criss

You can use the GAT-USBC-Rev2 using a USBC to Lightning connector cable but it may be overkill on the power.  To provide power only to the iPhone using a Lightning connector please see our AF-Lightning and for both power and data please see our GAF-Lightning-PD.

  • Does the device also enumerate as an Ethernet interface?

The GAT-USBC will convert the IEEE 802.3af/at POE to the corresponding profile of your device (5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, 20V). The power delivery will be out on the USB Type C connector and the data out on the RJ45.  This version does not communicate data over the USB-C port.  For both power and data on the USB-C please see GAT-USBC-PD-Rev2.

  • Which PoE Injector do you recommend to pair with this to power Nest Cam IQ outdoor?

If you only need to power one Nest Cam IQ, you can use the POE-1B-48v30w injector kit with the GAT-USBC. Feel free to email our team at success@poetexas.com for multi-port options. Thank you!

  • Can this be used for an Arlo Pro 2 camera?

Our records show that the Arlo Pro 2 actually has a microUSB connection for input power at 5V. For this, please see our GAF-USB, GAF-MicroUSB, or POE-USB-Kit. Thank you!

  • what is the difference between the regular and REV2?

The REV 2 was specifically desinged to be compatible with the iPad Pro Gen 3 12.9" profile for fast charging at 15 volts.

  • Will this work as POE and DATA through USB-C output?

This GAT-USBC model will split output power and data. For power + data on the USB-C connection please see our GAT-USBC-PD and GAT-UBC-PD-REV2.

  • Does this device also act as an USB-Network-Interface so the device can be supplied with power _and_ network data over USB-C? If not, do you offer a version which does?

For a PoE to USB-C solution with power + data, please see our GAT-USBC-PD or GAT-USBC-PD-REV2. The Rev2 is compatible with the iPad Pro Gen3, Microsoft Surface Go, Samsung Galaxy Tab Active, and Google Pixel phones. Our Rev1 will work with Microsoft Surface Go and Samsung Galaxy Tab Active.

  • Is this approved to be mounted directly to a wall or above a ceiling tile?

The In-Wall Mounting Bracket for the GAT-USBC splitter is not yet available but there are 2 slits on both the input and output sides of the encasing to be used for mounting.

  • Can I use this to do a POE Set up for the NEST Hello?

No, the GAT-USBC is not compatible for power with the Nest Hello doorbell. The doorbell requires AC power.

  • Can this unit be used at both ends of a cat5 cable? One to inject POE using the google provided power adapter and the other to deliver USBC power to the Google Wifi puck using the male/male USBC adapter cable?

No, the GAT-USBC cannot be used as an injector at the beginning of your run. The GAT-USBC accepts 802.3af/at power from a POE injector or switch on the input side. It will then power your Google WiFi Puck using the male/male adapter cable from the output on the female USB-C connector. Data output will be "Split" onto the female RJ45.

  • Do you have a version of this that accepts 24v input?

    Yes, please see our POE-USBC.

  • Is this splitter compatible with the new iPad Pro 12.9" Gen 3? I'm using a Ubiquiti Edgeswitch PoE+ switch. When hooked up to the iPad the charge symbol goes on an off and never fully charges.

Yes, the GAT-USBC-REV2 is compatible with a POE+ switch to provide power to an iPad Pro 12.9"

  • Does the RJ45 output also have POE power? I'm looking to power both a Nest IQ and a smaller POE camera at the same time.

No, the output female RJ45 port only provides data out, not power. Power is only provided on the female USB-C output.

  • Is it possible to use a Netgear GS305P to run two Google Wi-Fi units off two of your GAT-USBC splitters? Looks like a good product.

Yes, using the GAT-USBC splitter with your Netgear GS305P will work to provide the required 5 volts, 9 watts to your Google Wifi.

  • What type of fast charging is supported on GPOE-USBC-25W? I am using the AVHzY and can see quick charge 2.0 and 3.0 works. However, What about USB-PD? My tester says no CC when I try to test it.

We have found that the AVHzY tester has not been reliable in passing the new 3.0 standard CC communication due to an unknown compatibility issue. We recommend our PoE-Tester to get a good reading. As always, feel free to contact our customer service team for more details on compatibility of your specific device.

  • Will this device pass through uninterrupted Ethernet when used with an non-PoE switch or when Power is turned off on my PoE switch?

The GAT-USBC splitter is active/802.3at, so it will require power from a POE source to pass data through. Data is then "split" on to the female RJ45 output, not the USB-C connection.

  • Is this unit weatherproof for exterior installation on a wall?

This splitter is not weatherproof but it will operate if placed inside a weatherproof box.

  • Will it support an older standard - Cisco 802.3.af?

It depends on your end device and the power requirements. The older 802.3af Cisco PoE switches are capable of 15 watts, and some USBC devices require 20V 1 Amp, other USBC devices that are 15V 1 Amp could work. Feel free to send us the make and model of the USBC device you are powering and we will be happy to verify for you.

  • Have you tested this with POE switches from Cisco (802.3.at supported) to power Nest IQ Outdoor cameras?

Yes we have tested the GAT-USBC with Nestcam IQ Outdoor which is currently the most popular device we sell our GAT-USBC for. The GAT-USBC will work with a passive or active 802.3af PoE switch to power the Nestcam IQ Outdoor which likes 15V 1Amp.

  • I would like to know how to convert data from PoE to USB-C.

Please click the link to see our blog: "USB TYPE C WITH POWER DELIVERY ON POWER OVER ETHERNET HAS ARRIVED"

  • What are the physical dimensions of this product?

    4x2x1 inches

  • Does this work with the version 2 eero?

This device is designed to negotiate power to the end device. It will negotiate between 5v-20v on the USB-C and will depend on what the Eero or any Powered device is requesting.
