QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • The question was hooking two power supplies up in parallel to achieve 192 watts for (1) one 24 port patch panel. Using WS-POE-24-48V120W power supply

Yes, you can use a secondary power supply direct wired onto the screw terminal with the primary power supply plugged into the DC power port.

  • If I need 192 Watts on a 24 port patch panel you state below you can add another power supply, cut off the barrel connected and install it on the opposite end of the 24 patch panel. So I understand this you can put two power supplies in a parallel and not have any power issues yet I could achieve 192 watts with two power supplies?

We do not recommend using 2 power supplies to direct wire into this injector. This can create load balancing issues between the two power supplies. You can use a power supply with a larger wattage, we recommend Meanwell power supplies sold on Amazon. Typically these are available in 48 volt 500 watts on Amazon. Feel free to send us the make, model and quantity of devices you would like to power. I am happy to see if we have an alternative solution for you, Service@poetexas.com

  • Works with Aironet 1200 Series?

Yes when paired with the male splitter from this kit WS-POE-IO .The data sheet for your device does not specify PoE compatibility, so the splitter will be necessary if this is true.

  • Does this unit have a grounding point?

The injector itself is grounded to the housing and the power supply is grounded as a Class II device.  However, when grounding you should follow good ground practice.  Alphawire has a longer paper on this: http://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/alphawire-Understanding-Shielded-Cable.pdf

Basically, you only want to ground your shielding at one location for avoid a ground loop.  Our RJ-45 connectors between LAN and POE+Data are grounded to each other, so you'll want to check whether you're grounding at the Powered Device (PD) or at your switch.  If you ground there and ground at the injector, you could create a ground loop inducing more noise on your cabling.  Yes, over grounding can actually make things worse.  So keep that in mind as you're selecting what to ground where.

Please note, this grounding is not specifically design for grounding lightning or other induced loads of that intensity.  In that case, we'd suggest adding a PoE surge protector.

  • Can this item be ordered in a 240 watt version

We don't have a pre-kitted version, however, certainly you can buy this and a second WS-PS-48v120w.  The back of the 24 port has a DC barrel connector on one side and a screw terminal on the other.  Simply take the second power supply, cut off the head, strip back the wires, and land them on the screw terminals.  Red (+) and Black (-).  The screw terminals have a label on them.

  • What is the max power draw per port. I'm looking for a power draw of 50 watts per port.

The POE-24 has a fuse limit of 650mA per port. If used with a 48 volt power supply, this can support 802.3at power. You still have to be mindful of your overall power budget, though.

If you are looking for an 802.3bt injector, please see our GBT-24-M (Available with two power options).
